Elmira: Age 70, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, October 26, 2024. John was born in Montour Falls NY, a son of the late John and Catherine (Greenough) Mahoney. He is survived by his wife Debra (Waterholter) Mahoney; children, Marc Mahoney (Julie), John Mahoney (Jennie), Cheyanne Kinghorn (Ben), all of Colorado, Benjamin Mahoney of Montana; stepchildren, Joseph “Tripp” Ryan III (fiancée Blair Cundy) of Horseheads, Nichole Rodriguez of Elmira; grandchildren, Alex, Daniel, Caroline, Luke, Olive, Fox, Carter, Olivia, Michael, and Isabella; brothers, Richard Mahoney with daughter Elizabeth, William Mahoney with daughter Rosie; brothers-in-law, Frederick Waterholter, Jerry Collins (Cat), Steven Waterholter (Veronica).




John was a 1972 graduate of Horseheads High School. He loved spending time with his family including traveling with his wife Debra to restaurants and destinations throughout the country. John was a dedicated outdoorsman and spent countless hours hunting and fishing. He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren and passing on his love of the outdoors. John was a long-time employee of Hesselson’s in Elmira Heights.




Services for John will be held on Monday, November 4, 2024, at McInerny Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon, with a funeral service following at 12:00 noon. Interment will then take place at Woodlawn Cemetery.
