John Layton

Age 65, passed away very unexpectedly on Wednesday, April 15, 2015 at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center. John was born in Brooklyn NY on August 9, 1949 the son of the late Philip A. and Katherine (Truam) Layton. He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years Carol Tremaine Layton; daughters and sons-in-law, Betsy and Chris Spaulding of Orlando FL with son Griffin; Jennifer and Ben Smith of Winter Springs FL with daughter Penelope; Laura and Matt Ford of Elmira; son and daughter-in-law Corey and Denise Layton of New Windsor NY with children Chris, Cody and Sydney; sister and brother-in-law Judy and Bernie Kole of Beaufort SC; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Carl Tremaine, William Tremaine, Thomas and Patricia Tremaine, Gery and Michelle Tremaine, Kevin and Suzie Tremaine, Susan and Patrick Freeland, Marjorie Tremaine, Robert and Christine Tremaine, Bridgette Tremaine, Jayne and Michael D'Aloisio, Amy and Lance LaCorazza, Brian Tremaine and Elizabeth Tremaine; numerous nieces and nephews. John is also survived by many good friends. John was a U S Army veteran and had served in Vietnam. He was retired from the U.S. Postal Service and was a communicant of St. Patrick's Church. There will be no prior calling hours. Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday, April 21, 2015 at 11:30 a.m. in St. Patrick's Church, Elmira. Committal prayers, with military honors, will follow at Woodlawn National Cemetery.
