John Kravec

John E. Kravec Horseheads: Age 63, in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his loving family, passed away Tuesday, February 28, 2012. John was born February 5, 1949, the son of Phyllis (Stewart) Kravec and the late Stanley Kravec. In addition to his mother he is survived by his wife of 30 years Jodyann Wright Kravec; daughters, Juliann C. Kravec of Horseheads and Jamie C. Kravec of West Chester PA; son Michael W. Kravec of Syracuse; granddaughter, Jayliann C. Kravec, whom he dearly loved and was his little ray of sunshine; sister, Frances Kravec; sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Edward "Bud" Church of Beaver Dams; mother-in-law Catherine Wright of Horseheads; along with his nieces and a nephew. He was a long time employee of Chemung Canal Trust Company, with 38 years of service. Active in the community he was a member of the Horseheads Elks Club, Elmira Rotary, where he was the Treasurer for a number of years, and also received the Paul Harris Fellow award, and he was a volunteer with The Arctic League. John was an avid outdoorsman, something he passed on to his children, with camping trips to the Adirondacks, among other adventures. He loved hiking in the Catskills, Watkins Glen, and the Adirondacks, where he earned his membership in the 46'ers Club by climbing all 46 peaks. A good man, John will be missed by many. Friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, corner of W. Water and Walnut Sts., on Friday, March 2, 2012 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A prayer service will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, March 3, 2012 at 8:30 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mary Our Mother Church, Horseheads. John's family would like to give a very special thank you to Deb and Paulette, the nurses from Hospice who helped with John's care over the last few weeks.
