John E. Gallavan Elmira: Age 88, passed away Tuesday, June 26, 2012, at Elcor Health Services. John was born September 6, 1923, the son of Edward P. and Katherine (Regan) Gallavan. He is predeceased by his wife Marilyn (Taft) Gallavan. John is survived by his step-children, Deborah L. Cheyne, Baldwinsville NY; Richard W. (Tamara) Carroll, Jr., Horseheads; Kenneth T. (April Thiel) Carroll, Elmira; nephews, Tim Bermingham, Fishkill NY; John Bermingham, Elmira; Phillip Bermingham, Elmira; and Paul (Gail) Bermingham, Leominster MA; good friend Lucille Sayles, Elmira; along with several cousins. John was retired from the railroad after nearly 37 years of service… 30 years with Lehigh Valley and 6 ½ years with Conrail. He was a member of the Transportation Communications International Union for over 50 years. John was also a member of the Msgr. John J. Lee Division of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, and a long time communicant of St. Mary's Church, Elmira. Friends are invited to John's Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, June 29, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Church, Elmira. Interment, with committal prayers, will follow at St. Peter & Paul's Cemetery. Those wishing may remember John with a donation to St. Mary's Church, 224 Franklin Street, Elmira NY 14904.
