Age 90, passed away peacefully at the Robert Packer Hospital on Monday, October 16, 2023. Jack was born in Elmira, son of George H. and Ina (Stage) Carpenter. He was predeceased by first wife, and mother of his children, Sharon Carpenter Ungvarsky; and second wife Diane Carpenter. He is survived by wife, Susan Carpenter of Horseheads; sons and daughters-in-law, Bryan and Karin Carpenter of Sewell NJ, Bruce and Erlinda Carpenter of New Kent VA; stepchildren, Rebecca Romig with husband David of Sayre PA, Brett Christian of Horseheads NY; sister Donna Draxler of Pine City NY; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Jack had a love for aviation at an early age. By the time he was 13 he had earned his pilot’s license. Over his lifetime he had owned 5 different airplanes. Jack worked in the aviation business for most of his life. For many years he was as a salesman for Dallas Avionics and traveled a good part of the United States. He was also a car enthusiast and a NASCAR fan. He attended races in Daytona when the races were run on the beach. Jack had a great sense of humor and enjoyed sharing a good joke. He enjoyed going out to lunch once a month with fellow Pine City friends he grew up with. Jack was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Horseheads.
Family and friends are invited to call at the Pine City United Methodist Church, 1238 Pennsylvania Ave., Pine City on Monday, October 23, 2023 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Jack’s funeral service, led by Pastor Andy Pollock, will follow at 11:00 am. Burial will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery at a later date.
Donations in Jack’s memory may be directed to the Pine City United Methodist Church for the creation of a bus ministry.
