Joanne M Casey, age 69, passed away at home, suddenly and unexpectedly, on January 4, 2024. Joanne was born in Worcester MA, the daughter of Arthur L., and Anne (Sullivan) Burns. In addition to her parents, she is also predeceased by her siblings, John Burns, Mary Ellen Rose, and Christine Popieniuck.




Joanne is survived by her husband of 47 years Brian D. Casey, as well as children, Kerri Davis (Christopher) of Elmira, Colleen Ellis (James) of Unadilla NY, Joanne Rose (Jonah Katz) of Morgantown WV, and Sean Casey (fiancée Aimie Boothe) of Mooresville NC; seven grandchildren; sister Kathryn Drummond (Gordon) of Lansdale PA; brother-in-law Kevin Casey (Kathleen Campbell) of Port St. Lucie FL; sister-in-law Lori Douglas of Leominster MA; and several nieces and nephews.




Joanne was a graduate of Hahnemann Hospital School of Nursing in Worcester MA, and Assumption College (MA, Counseling), also in Worcester. She spent most of her working career in Emergency Room nursing in Massachusetts and locally here in Elmira at the Arnot. When the family moved to Elmira in 1994, she worked for several years at the Elmira Psych Center as a counselor, and later at Arnot Hospital, ending her nursing career there in the Quality Group.


Joanne enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, and particularly enjoyed the annual family beach vacations with them to Cape Cod and other locations. She was a member of the Elmira Elks as well as the Ladies Division of the Ancient Hibernians.




Calling Hours for Joanne will be on Wednesday, February 7, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., at McInerny Funeral Home, 502 W. Water Street, Elmira. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial for Joanne on Thursday, February 8, 2024, at 11:00 a.m., St. Patrick's Church, 604 Park Place, Elmira.




Officers and members of the Ladies Division of the A.O.H will meet at the funeral home on Wednesday, February 7th at 6:00 p.m., to conduct a service for our sister Joanne. Signed, Patty Corcoran, president.
