Friday, April 21, 2017 our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and devoted friend, passed away peacefully at home. Joan "Gram" is predeceased by her husband, Robert Douglas Rommelt, son, Jeffrey L. Lawes and granddaughter, Lauren Rommelt. Joan is survived by her children, J. Joseph Lawes (Ellen) of Schaumburg IL; James M. Lawes of Seneca Falls; Jerome D. Lawes of Elmira, with his children, Mallory and Erica; Shelby Kotch of Elmira, with son Jason P. Lawes; Pamela Carrube (Donald) of Palm Harbor, FL with children, Matthew, Michael and Morgan; Carol Vinson of Clearwater, FL with children, Reagan and Kelsey; Robert Douglas Rommelt III (Vickie) of Palm Harbor, FL and son Robert Rommelt IV; Diane Dieffenbach (Michael) of Blairstown, NJ with children, Michael and Callie. Joan is also survived by her siblings, Ann (Richard) Hitchcock of Elmira, James (Marjorie) McFarland of Big Flats, Michael (Mary) McFarland of Horseheads and Mary Fran Burke of Elmira; brothers-in-law, Theodore Rundall and Sidney Brown. Joan is also survived by her many special nieces, nephews and close friends. Joan was born July 14, 1936 in Elmira. Joan was very social, spending countless hours with her family and friends. She was a devout Catholic and proud graduate of Elmira Catholic High, and always looked forward to their regular "Breakfast Club" gatherings. Her favorite activities included card club, Red Hats Club/Classy Lassies, poker club, exercise club, events for Orchids and Candlelight, and the Hibernians. She loved to travel, attend sporting events, and soak up the sun at the lake. Gram's most precious moments were spent with her children and grandchildren. All are invited to Joan's Mass of Christian Burial, Tuesday, April 25, 2017, 10:00 a.m., St. Mary's Church, Elmira.
