Joan Moffe

Joan D. Moffe Horseheads: Age 76, passed away October 5, 2011 at home surrounded by her family, and close friend Pat Campanelli. Joan was born in Elmira, NY on May 23, 1935 to Ruth Harris. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Ralph F. Moffe, daughter Marcy Straight (Tom) of Elmira, and son Carl Moffe (Shelly Remillard) of Rochester, NY; as well as grandchildren Shawn (Cory) and Trista (Pat Knaus); great grandchild Trevor Moffe. Joan graduated from Elmira Free Academy in 1953 and also earned Bachelor's and Master's degrees from Elmira College. Joan worked at Elmira Free Academy in the attendance office from 1966-1981 and was also co-owner of Cozy Corner in Elmira from 1969-1973. Joan worked as the Executive Director for the Tri-County Private Industry Council in Painted Post, NY from 1984-2001. She retired in 2001 and continued her active life through her association with Market Street Antiques in Corning, NY, as well as spending time in her garden, and caning. Joan loved walking her canine companions, Maddie and Marty wherever she went. She also loved her cat Billy. Trips to Las Vegas and cruises to the Caribbean were favorite destinations for Joan and her family. Joan was always eager to meet new people and her smile and laughter always lit up a room. She was a wonderful, caring mother and friend. She will be missed by all who knew her. Family and friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, corner of Walnut and W. Water Streets, on Friday, October 7, 2011 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A prayer service will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, October 8, 2011 at 8:15 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Patrick's Church at 9:00 a.m. Interment, with committal prayers, will follow at St. Peter & Paul's Cemetery. Donations in Joan's memory may be made to the SPCA, Rt. 352, Elmira, NY. Joan's family would like to acknowledge the wonderful care provided by Guthrie Cancer Treatment Center, in Corning, especially Dr. Charles Collier, Dr. Aref Agheli, and Karena Smith.
