Joan B. Haskell

Age 93, passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side on Wednesday, July 24, 2024. Joan was a resident of Elmira, the last surviving of seven children born to Joseph M. and Mary Nilan Buckley. She is survived by her loving husband of 70 years Bruce J. Haskell; son and daughter-in-law Thomas and Linda Haskell of Elmira with their children, Hannah and Jack Haskell; daughter and son-in-law Laurie Pica and James Blackman of Elmira; sister-in-law Shirley Buckley of Connecticut, along with several nieces and nephews. Joan is predeceased by her daughter Mary Ellen Haskell; siblings and their spouses, Winifred and Darwin Arnold, Jane and Jack Chapman, Robert and Ellen Buckley, Joseph and Joyce Buckley, Paul and Jean Buckley, Gerald Buckley; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Mildred and Doug Haskins, Marjorie and Pete Johnson, Helen and Thomas Keeton, Ralph “Brud” and Dorothy Haskell; and several nieces and nephews.

Joan was born and raised in Penn Yan NY, and it was there that she met her future husband Bruce J. Haskell. Over the years they spent many happy times with family and friends at their cottage on Keuka Lake. An avid reader, Joan always had a book with her ready to read. She was a devoted mother to her three children and a doting grandmother to her grandchildren and grand-dogs. She loved her family get togethers. A devout Catholic, Joan was a long-time communicant of St. Patrick’s Church. She will forever be loved and missed by her family.

There will be no prior calling hours. Family and friends are invited to Joan’s Mass of Christian Burial to be held at St. Patrick’s Church, 604 Park Place, Elmira, on Monday, July 29, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. Committal prayers and interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery.
