Jean Asher

Age 87, passed away on Tuesday, August 4, 2015. Jean was born in Buffalo, NY on August 16, 1927, the daughter of George H. and Mary E. (Chase) Ackerson. She was predeceased by her husband of 52 years, John W. Asher on Dec. 18, 2002 and her brother Paul C. Ackerson. Jean is survived by her children, Constance Asher Hipolit with husband Richard of Falls Church, VA; John P. Asher and wife Susan of Elgin, SC; David B. Asher of Horseheads; Marianne Asher Cain and husband Michael of Elmira; grandchildren Melissa Hipolit of Richmond, VA, and John Andrew Hipolit of Washington, DC, Brian Asher of Elgin, SC, Sarah and Nicholas Cain of Elmira. Jean was raised in Kenmore, NY and was a 1945 graduate of Kenmore High School. She attended the University of Buffalo School of Nursing and was a graduate of the Jean Summers Business School. Jean worked at Chemung Canal Trust Company before taking time off to start her family. Later in life she returned to work with various insurance companies, including serving as Office Manager at Northwestern Mutual Life. Jean was a longtime active member of Trinity Episcopal Church. Her activities there included being one of the original Trinity Church Chapel Shop ladies, a member of the Altar Guild and choir, involved in the yearly Apple Festival, and a Lenten Luncheon and Apple Festival volunteer. She was also a P.T.A. volunteer at Hendy Ave. School. Jean was an excellent cook, baker, and a devoted friend to many. She loved Keuka Lake and the beaches of Cape Cod and South Carolina. Most importantly she enjoyed the time spent with her beloved children and grandchildren. Family and friends are invited to a Memorial Service at Trinity Episcopal Church on Saturday, August 8, 2015 at 12:30 p.m. Donations in memory of Jean may be directed to Trinity Episcopal Church, 304 N.
