Janice A. Murphy

Elmira: Age 89, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family that she dearly loved, on Sunday, July 25, 2021. Janice was born in Passaic NJ on December 20, 1931, a daughter of Richard L. and Blanche Coffey McKevitt. She is predeceased by her husband Michael Larkin Murphy; sister Mary Frances Clancy; sister-in-law and brothers-in-law, Mary Ann Murphy O'Toole Maywalt, William O'Toole, Jack Maywalt, Robert Lavarnway and Edward Clancy; cousin Marlene Martin Hershberger. Janice is survived by her children and their families, Michael and Nancy Murphy of Pine City, with daughter Joli Milks; Patricia "Missy" Murphy of Sterling Heights MI, with daughters, Jessica (Andrew) Matucheski and Katherine (Charles) Marteney; Rick and Pamela Murphy of Elmira with sons, Jonathan (Jenny), Patrick (Allison) and Joseph; Matthew and Bridgid Murphy of Elmira with children, Sean (Sayre Wilson), Colleen and Thomas (Lauren Bachman); Mark and Theresa Murphy of Elmira with children, Ryan, Margaret and Claire; Maureen and Matthew Throumoulos of Webster NY with children, Michael, Morgan and Maddie; great grandchildren, Charlie, Alyssa, Nicholas, Emily, Carter, Lila, Evelyn, Eleanor, August and Jackson; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Catherine Lavarnway of Southport, Thomas and Barbara Murphy of Cary, NC; along with numerous nieces and nephews. Janice was a dedicated registered nurse for over 40 years at various facilities including the Chemung County Nursing Facility. She and Mike enjoyed time spent with their many good friends in both Elmira and at the "Kove" in Florida during the winter months. Janice was an active person who always enjoyed a round of golf. Her passion for golf has been passed down to her four sons. A devout Catholic, Janice was a longtime communicant of St. Patrick's Church. She cherished her close-knit immediate family and extended family. Family and friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, 502 W. Water Street, Elmira on Thursday, July 29, 2021 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A prayer service will be held at the funeral home on Friday, July 30, 2021 at 10:15 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Patrick's Church, 204 Park Place, Elmira at 11:00 a.m. Private interment will take place at Woodlawn National Cemetery.
