Jane Callahan

Passed away Monday, October 12, 2015. Jane was the beloved daughter of William and Marie Callahan. The youngest of 7 children she is predeceased by her siblings, William, Alice, Virginia, Marie, Edward and Robert. Jane is an aunt to Jack Jesmer, Kathleen Randall and Maria Mahoney; grand aunt to Ben, Adam, Eric, Bryan, Lynn, Siobhan, Ciara and Liam; great grand aunt to Payton Marie; and a dear friend to Laura Lagonegro, all of whom survive her. Jane graduated from St. Patrick's Grammar School and Elmira Free Academy. She continued her education at New Rochelle College, graduated in 1959 and then received her Master's Degree from Elmira College in 1968. Jane was an English Teacher at Horseheads High School from 1959 – 1992. A ProLife advocate, Jane was the president of the Chemung County Right to Life for over 8 years and the chairman for the Prolife line of Elmira for over 10 years. She had numerous ProLife articles published and took part in many public debates. Jane enjoyed traveling and her favorite country to visit was Ireland. She was a life-long communicant of St. Patrick's Church, and was the secretary/treasurer of the Legion of Mary for over 30 years. Friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, 502 W. Water Street, Elmira, on Friday, October 16, 2015 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, October 19, 2015 at 10:00 a.m., St. Patrick's Church. Interment, with committal prayers, will follow at St. Peter & Paul's Cemetery.
