James Michael Sabatini, a proud Veteran of the United States Marine Corp., passed away on March 15, 2024, surrounded by his family. The son of Dominic and Jean Sabatini, James grew up in Elmira, New York, and was a graduate of Elmira Free Academy.
At the age of 18, James enlisted in the United States Marine Corp. Upon completion of his service, he went on to work for the Elmira Correctional Facility and retired from there. James enjoyed time with his family, NASCAR, camping, hunting, and history. He was very kind and generous to others.
James is survived by his children, Tricia (Scott) Bailey, Matthew Sabatini, and Meagan (Jack) Aber, brothers, Joe (Gwen) Sabatini, Mark Sabatini, and Nick Ostrander. He is also survived by his nieces, Roberta Countryman and Nicole Sabatini; and grandsons Rian Bailey and Colton Aber. His grandsons were the light of his life and brought laughter and great joy to him.
Calling hours will take place at McInerny Funeral Home, 502 W. Water Street, Elmira, on Sunday, April 21, 2024, from 2:00pm to 5:00pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary's Church, 224 Franklin Street, Elmira, on Monday, April 22, 2024, at 9:30am. Interment with military honors, and committal prayers, will follow at Woodlawn National Cemetery.
