James A. DeNerio "Erie" Age 95, of Elmira, passed away on Saturday, December 8, 2012 at the Bath VA Medical Center. James was born on May 15, 1917 in Elmira son of Anthony and Christina (DiCamillo) DeNerio. He is survived by his brother, Louis DeNerio, Elmira; sister, Margaret DeNerio Devore, Horseheads; nieces, Tammy DeNerio Tomisman, Elmira and Sharlene Oakden, Campbell NY; nephew, Christopher DeNerio, Worcester, MA; special grandnieces who provided loving care to Jimmy, Rhiannon and Christina Tomisman, both of Elmira, and Haleigh Tomisman Morrison, Latrobe PA; along with several grandnephews. Jimmy was born over Moretti's Restaurant and grew up in "The Patch". He entered the U S Army serving his country in World War II in the Pacific Theater and was awarded several medals for his service. His Army Company was chosen to march in Presidents Roosevelt's Inaugural parade in 1940. Jimmy also had a small part in the movie "This is the Army" with Ronald Reagan and legendary Boxer Joe Louis in 1943. Following his discharge from the Army he was the owner and operator of C.C. Billiard's in Elmira for 30 years. Jimmy was a charter member of the Italian American Veterans Club. Family and friends are invited to attend Jimmy's Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday, December 11, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church. Private interment, with full military honors, will take place at St. Peter & Paul's Cemetery.
