Jack Smith

June 2, 1945 — July 14, 2012

Jack Albert Smith Evans CO: passed away peacefully on July 14, 2012. He was born June 2, 1945 in Baltimore, MD, the son of Ruth Ann (Null) and Hugo Smith, and raised in San Angelo, TX. He is survived by his loving wife Helen (Sandore) Smith of Evans; son Jason Smith of Denver, CO; uncle Laud Howell, cousins, Judy Cox and Family, all of McKinney, TX, Nancy and John Kassen of Festus, MO. He was well loved and will be missed by the Sandore Family of Elmira. After graduating from Texas Tech University Jack joined the US Army and served in the Vietnam War. Later Jack moved to Colorado where he met his wife, Helen. They shared 28 years of marriage and had son Jason who he adored. Jack, Helen, and Jason enjoyed all that Colorado had to offer - the outdoors, camping, and canoeing with many outings to the mountains. His love of nature was fostered through Boy Scouts which he handed down to Jason. Jack and Jason planted beautiful gardens together. Although Jack was an only child he shared many childhood adventures with his relatives in MO and TX. He liked going on annual vacations with Helen's siblings, especially the "all inclusives" in Mexico and the Caribbean. Family was important to him and he liked being called Uncle Jack. All are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, 502 W. Water Street, Elmira, on Monday, July 23, 2012 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. A funeral service will follow at 12:15 p.m. Interment, with military honors, will then take place at Woodlawn National Cemetery Columbarium. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the PVHS Foundation where Jack worked as an X-ray technician www.pvhs.org., or your favorite charity. Notes of remembrance may be left at www.legacy.com.
