Hope DuBois 1958 — 2025

Hope DuBois passed peacefully, surrounded by friends and family, on September 1, 2025, at Arnot Ogden Medical Center.

Mama Hope, as many friends knew her, was born in Lake Charles, LA, in 1958 to Sharon Darlene DuBois and Irving LeRoy DuBois. Hope spent many years at Shriners Children's Hospital in Springfield, Massachusetts. She then lived in New York, where she attended Bath Central School District and Tompkins County Community College (TC3). Hope wished more than anything to become a mom, and on September 5, 1999, her dearest wish came true when her son Shane was born. During motherhood, she continued to become a mother figure to many other people. She attended Wildlife Rockstars and an adult day program, where another wish came true: she got to engage in animal husbandry, meeting many types of animals, from opossums to capybaras. At Wildlife Rockstars she met Farkle, a Lesser Hedgehog Tenrec. Mom and Farkle were quick friends, and from then on her purse would always need to be checked to ensure Farkle was in his cage and not going home with Mom. Hope always had a smile on her face. She enjoyed long rides in her electric wheelchair and always made her way to the farmers' market. In her little spare time, she would color, filling many coloring books with wonderful art.

Hope is predeceased by her mother Sharon DuBois, father Irving DuBois, and younger brother Timothy.

She is survived by sons, Shane DuBois and Daniel Rizk; sister Darlene; brothers, Dana and Irving; nieces and nephews, Carol, James, Lee, Summer, Danielle, Josh, Matthew, Eric, Tiffany and Brittany; and special friends Lauren, Melanie, Doug and Elise.

There will be no services. The family will have a small celebration of life for friends and family.

In lieu of flowers, we would greatly appreciate donations to Bridges for Brain Injury, Pathways, Inc., or your local SPCA in Hopes honor.
