Age 97, formerly of Elmira, died at her son's home in Friendsville, Pennsylvania, on Saturday, April 30, 2016. Helen was born in Elmira on August 22, 1918, a daughter of Thomas McElligott and Anna Graboski McElligott. She is predeceased by her husband of 67 years Eugene J. Ploucha, Sr., brothers, Thomas and Jack McElligott, and sister Ann Mary Hancock. Helen is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Eugene J., Jr. and Mary Ploucha of Friendsville PA; daughter and son-in-law Marilyn and Homer Monroe of Elmira; son Thomas Ploucha of Spring Hill FL; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; along with several nieces and nephews. Helen graduated from Elmira Catholic High School. Prior to having her children she worked for Delmont Trucking Company. After raising her children she worked for Jerome's Clothing Store and then S. F. Iszard's, from where she retired. Helen loved her pets, sewing and flower gardens. She was a long time communicant of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church until its closing, then became a communicant of Ss. Peter and Paul Church. Family and friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, 502 W. Water Street, Elmira, on Wednesday, May 4, 2016 from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 12:00 noon at Ss. Peter and Paul Church. Committal prayers and interment will take place at St. Peter & Paul's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers those wishing may remember Helen with a donation to either, St. Jude's Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis TN 38105, or Hospice of the Sacred Heart, 600 Baltimore Drive, Wilkes-Barre PA 18702.
