Age 96, passed away peacefully at St. Joseph’s Hospital on Monday, April 25, 2022 with his loving son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Ginny at his bedside. Harry was born in Elmira NY, a son of Harry J. and Eunice Barnes Sheehe. He was predeceased by his wife of 66 years Ethel Freeman Sheehe; son Robert D. Sheehe; brother James Sheehe; sisters, Margaret Palmer and Clara Kojak. Harry is survived by son and daughter-in-law Michael C. and Ginny Sheehe of Elmira; brother-in-law Larry Keagle of Horseheads; sister-in-law Joanie Freeman of Horsheads; several nieces and nephews.
Harry was born and raised in Elmira. He was a 1943 graduate of Elmira Free Academy. Three days before his eighteenth birthday, and finishing his senior year in high school, Harry enlisted in the U.S. Army. Shortly after graduation Harry entered into active service. He served in the Pacific during WW II and was the recipient of numerous decorations and citations including a Purple Heart Medal. Harry was the co-owner and operator of Sheehe Sales on S. Main Street in Elmira for many years. He was a longtime communicant of St. Mary’s Church. Along with his wife, Ethel, Harry loved to play bocce ball.
Family and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary’s Church, 224 Franklin St., Elmira, on Tuesday, May 3, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. A livestream of the Mass will be available through the Facebook page for Most Holy Name of Jesus Parish (https://www.facebook.com/ElmiraCatholic) Committal prayers and military honors will take place at 2:00 p.m. at Woodlawn National Cemetery. Those wishing may remember Harry with a donation to a charity of their choice.
