Elmira: Age 92, passed away on Sunday, September 18, 2022. Harold was born and raised in Elmira a son of Harold F., Sr. and Ada (Viele) Wood. He is predeceased by his first wife Helen Kisken Wood, second wife Mary Armstrong Wood, and sister Margaret Brink Emmick. Harold is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Michael D. and Kari Wood; daughter and son-in-law Cynthia and Ted Cobb; sister Barbara Peterson, all of Elmira; stepchildren, Stewart Armstrong of Royersford PA, with wife Debbie, Lori Hine of Elmira with husband Rick; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Tom and Sandra Evans of Elmira; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Mickey and Don Stough of Carlisle PA; along with numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Harold was a U S Navy veteran, serving his country for four years during the Korean War. He was a fireman on the DL&W Railroad for eleven years. Harold then went to work for the U S Postal Service, retiring after twenty-nine years of service. Following his passion for golf he worked as a starter at the Soaring Eagles Golf Course for ten years. Harold enjoyed traveling….going to see family and friends and attending his Naval reunions.
Family and friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, 502 W Water Street, Elmira, on Thursday, September 22, 2022 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial well take place on Friday, September 23, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church, 224 Franklin Street, Elmira. Interment, with committal prayers and military honors will follow at St. Peter & Paul’s Cemetery.
