Gordon Burke

Hilton Head SC: Age 86, formerly of Elmira, passed away Sunday, November 23, 2014. Gordon was born in Corning NY, April 29, 1928, a son of Margaret (McCarthy) and Leland Burke. He is predeceased by his wife Patricia Martin Burke, son Martin F. Burke and brother Leland Burke. Gordon is survived by his children, Cynthia M. Burke of Elmira, Jeffry M. Burke of Corning and his wife Sherry, David G. Burke of Middlesex NY, Kathy L. Burke of Elmira, Nancy B. Kaiser of Hilton Head and her husband James; 15 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Marilyn and William Johnson, Shelia Huber, all of Wilmington NC; along with several nieces and nephews. Gordon was a U S Army Korean War veteran. He was a graduate of Elmira College. Gordon was a Professional Engineer, working for Corning Inc for over 40 years. Gordon enjoyed sports and was a stand-out athlete in his younger days. An outdoorsman he loved hunting and fishing. Friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, 502 W. Water Street, Elmira on Tuesday, December 2, 2014 from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held at the conclusion of calling hours, with military honors following. Interment will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery.
