Geraldine Kelly

"Gerry" Age 99, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 11, 2016 at the Chemung County Nursing Facility. Geraldine was born in 1917, a daughter of Catherine (Keane) and James H. Kelly. She is predeceased by her sister and brother-in-law, Margaret and Daniel J. Collins; brother and sister-in-law, John Bernard and Margaret Kelly; and nephews, Daniel P. Kelly and Robert Chimileski. Geraldine is survived by her many nieces and nephews, Suzanne Henderson, Mary Jo (Gary) Earley, Catherine Kelly, Patricia Stump, Kathleen Chimileski, Mary Margaret (Pete) Mazzaraco, John (Lisa) Kelly, all of the Elmira/Horseheads area; James Kelly of Patyon CO and Daniel J. (Kathleen) Collins of Milwaukee WI; several great-nieces and great-nephews, and great-great nieces and great-great nephews. Geraldine served in the U S Navy during WWII, attaining the rank of Ensign. She was a graduate of St. Joseph's Hospital School of Nursing and was a long time nurse at St. Joseph's Hospital. In 1972 Geraldine was awarded the hospital's Oppy Award. Geraldine was a life-long communicant of St. Mary's Church, Elmira. She spent the first 96 years of her life in the family home on Perine Street. Geraldine was also a long time member of the Ladies Division of the Ancient Order of Hibernians. Family and friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, 502 W. Water Street, Elmira on Monday, August 15, 2016 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A prayer service will be held there on Tuesday, August 16, 2016 at 9:15 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Church. Interment, with committal prayers, will follow at St. Peter & Paul's Cemetery. Officers and members of the Ladies Division of the A.O.H. will meet at the McInerny Funeral Home on Monday, August 15th at 7:00 p.m. to conduct a service for Geraldine.
