Gary R. Durfee

Gary R. Durfee, 72, of Southport NY passed on Wednesday, October 22, 2025.

Gary is survived by his sisters, Eileen McDonald and Melody Groom. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Gary joins many of his family members: mother, Charlotte Durfee; brother, Terry Durfee; sisters, Charlene Galpin, Marlene Cram, Arlene Schultz; nephews, Matthew White, Mitchell White, Rex Galpin; niece, Kimberly Barnum.

Waiting across the rainbow bridge will be: Duke, Moe, Mr. Tibbs, Alvin, Baxter and Miss Essie Mae.

Gary was a US Army veteran, serving his country from 1971 – 1974. His passion for culinary arts led him to many area restaurants, including the Elmira Country Club, Brennan’s Catering, Brennan’s Restaurant, and ultimately to Woodbrook Assisted Living where he retired as the Dietary Director.

Services for Gary will be held at McInerny Funeral Home, 502 W Water Street, Elmira, on Wednesday, October 29, 2025. Calling hours will be from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., followed by a 6:00 p.m. funeral service. Interment, with military honors, will take place on Thursday, October 30, 2025, Woodlawn Cemetery at 11:00 a.m.
