Fredel Cardone

June 19, 1938 — January 21, 2017

"Fred" Age 78, died peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, January 21, 2017. Fred was born in Elmira, son of the late James J. and Mary Moffe Cardone. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years Edna "Penny" Stadelmaier Cardone; daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Beth and Graham Gray of Elmira with children Elizabeth Kelleher, Matthew (Genalin) Kelleher and James Gray; Melinda and Joseph Appleby of Rochester with children Mary, Philip and Paul Appleby; Molly Bartlett of Horseheads with Chris Ray and her children, Emma and Gavin Bartlett; sister Ann Rafferty of Rome NY; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Lynne Piasecki of Manlius NY, John and Sharon Stadelmaier of Nesconset NY, Susan and Timothy Sage of Elmira; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Fred was predeceased by his mother-in-law Janet Stadelmaier; brothers-in-law, James Rafferty and Frank Stadelmaier. He was a graduate of Elmira Free Academy where he played football with Ernie Davis. Fred had worked for the Elmira Water Board before going to work with the railroad, retiring as a Yardmaster with Norfolk and Southern. He was a longtime active communicant of St. Anthony's Church. Fred enjoyed his morning coffee with friends at Cozy Corner. He was a longtime member and fire commissioner for the West Hill Fire Department. Most importantly Fred was a loving father, grandfather and an amazing husband. Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Patrick's Church on Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. Committal prayers and interment will follow at St. Peter and Paul's Cemetery. The Cardone family wants to extend a sincere thank you to the doctors and nursing staff at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center and to Care First for the loving care provided to Fred during his illness. Those wishing may remember Fred with a donation to a charity of one's choice.
