age 78, passed away on Monday, September 8, 2025, at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. Sam was born and raised in Elmira, son of the late Frank W. and Mary Theresa (Cafolla) Doland. He was also predeceased by brother James Doland, sister Rose Doland, and stepbrother Michael Tobin. Sam is survived by his loving wife Margaret “Margie” Fabrizio Doland; children, Daniel (Diane) Doland with daughter Britney and her son Van … David (Lisa Treuthart-Doland) with children Andrew, Gabrielle and Benjamin …. and Kristen Doland; siblings and their spouses, Carol Doland and Dave Sandore, Thomas and Carol Doland, John Doland, Mary Doland, Kathy and Dale Davis, Janet Poppleton; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins and friends.
Sam was a 1965 graduate of Elmira Free Academy. He was a US Army veteran serving during Vietnam. Sam was employed as a New York State Corrections officer retiring from the Elmira Correctional Facility with 30 years of service. He was a lifelong baseball fan with the New York Yankees being his favorite team and Mickey Mantle his favorite player. After his retirement Sam, along with his son Dan and daughter Kris, enjoyed going to yard sales, flea markets and household sales looking for just the right bargain. He found his most enjoyment attending the various events of his grandchildren.
There will be no prior calling hours. Family and friends are invited to Sam’s Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary’s Church, 224 Franklin St, Elmira, on Monday, September 15, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. Military honors will take place outside the church after the Mass. Committal prayers and interment will then follow at St. Peter & Paul’s Cemetery.
