Francis Steed

Passed away peacefully at home, on his 90th birthday, Wednesday, January 10, 2018. Francis was born in Binghamton, a son of Francis T. and Catherine Flannery Steed. He graduated from Albany College of Pharmacy and worked in the family business, Gerould's Professional Pharmacy, for over 60 years. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 52 years Margaret Sullivan Steed, sister Barbara Coughlin and brother Gerald Steed. Francis is survived by his children, and their families: Bridget M. Steed of Elmira, NY, with son Dylan; Catherine N. Steed and husband Richard McGrail of North Easton, MA with daughter Bridget; Therese C. and Michael Pentaris of Oneonta, NY with children, Joanna, Alexia and husband Tom Flynn with daughters Kennedy and Bailey, Mikhail, Demetrios and Antonios; Barbara A. and Robert MacBlane of Elmira, NY with children, Margaret and Michael; F. Michael Steed of Elmira, NY; Margaret Swarthout of Elmira, NY; siblings and their spouses, William R. and Peggy Steed of Pine City, NY, Patrick J. and Jean Ann Steed of Horseheads, NY, Kathleen and Tony Cannizzaro of Long Point, NY, Mary Anne and Joe Kane of Waverly, NY; sisters-in-law Priscilla Steed and Ann Starr, both of Elmira, NY; along with many nieces, nephews and cousins. Francis was a veteran of the U S Coast Guard. Francis was a member of the John J. Lee Division of the Ancient Order of Hibernians. Family and friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, 502 W Water Street, Elmira, on Friday, January 12, 2018 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A prayer service will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, January 13, 2018 at 9:15 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, 10:00 a.m., St. Mary's Church, 224 Franklin Street, Elmira. Interment, with committal prayers and military honors, will follow at St. Peter and Paul's Cemetery. The officers and members of the A.O.H. will meet at McInerny Funeral Home on Friday at 8:00 p.m. to conduct a memorial service for our departed brother Francis. Signed Mike Duffy, President.
