Francis Peter Scrocarelli

Age 88, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones on Tuesday, September 16, 2025. Francis was born in Elmira, the son of the late Peter and Amelia Bellardini Scrocarelli. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 60 years, Joan Dombroski Scrocarelli on August 26, 2023. Francis is survived by his extended family which includes cousins, friends and caregivers.

Francis was a US Army veteran. He had a long career with the New York State Department of Corrections and retired as a sergeant from the Elmira Correctional Facility.

Francis aways enjoyed the outdoors. After his retirement he worked for some time as the groundskeeper at Dunn Field where he also enjoyed watching the ballgames. Francis was a car enthusiast, a hobby he picked up from his father, who was a mechanic. He was a long-time communicant of St. Mary’s Church.

There will be no calling hours. Family and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary’s Church, 224 Franklin St., Elmira, on Tuesday, September 23, 2025 at 11:00 am. Committal prayers and interment, with military honors, will follow at St. Peter & Paul’s Cemetery. The family would like to extend special thanks to all the caregivers who provided love and support to Francis.
