Elvira Nagel

of Elmira, NY died March 16, 2014 at the age 101 in Newton, NC. Elvira was born September 3, 1912, the youngest and last surviving of 12 children born to Theodore and Theodosia Smalley Terrill. She was a loving mother, fervent Catholic, firm friend and a great cook. Elvira was predeceased by her husband, William J. Nagel on December 6, 1990 and is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law Brigadier General (Retired) Joseph L. and Charlotte L. Nagel of Fayetteville, NC, William D. and Barbara J. Nagel of Terrell, NC, and David A. Nagel and dear friend Barbara Spencer of Rochester, NY; six grandchildren, Lieutenant Colonel (Retired) J. Robert (Kathy) Nagel of Williamsburg, VA, Melanie M. (Dr. Randolph) Monchick of Cary, NC, Lisa M. (James) Flynn of Huntersville, NC, John P. Nagel of Charlotte, NC, Jeffrey (Beth) Nagel of Rochester, NY, and Kristen (Scott) St. Joseph of Watertown. NY; nine great-grandchildren, Mandelyn Monchick, Jessica and Ian Flynn, Ryan and Kevin Nagel, Riley, Jocelyn, John David and Luke St. Joseph; along with several nieces and nephews. Elvira was a devout Catholic and a founding member of Our Lady of Lourdes Church. Friends are invited to visit with the family at the McInerny Funeral Home, 502 W. Water Street, Elmira on Thursday, March 20, 2014 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Church on Friday, March 21, 2014. Interment will follow at St. Peter & Paul's Cemetery. Donations may be made to the charity of your choice, in lieu of flowers.
