Elnora Vanosdol

Age 88, of Elmira, died January 10, 2018, in Newton, NJ, surrounded by her loving family. Born May 31, 1929 in Osgood, IN, Ellie was the daughter of Herman Huffmeyer and Sena Ocia (Klingworth) Huffmeyer. A Wittenberg University alumna, Ellie was the only one of eight siblings to graduate from college. Ellie traveled through Europe as a youth ambassador and later was employed as Band Director and Music Teacher in Rushville, IN, where she met her true love. Ellie was married for 60 years to Philip G. VanOsdol who preceded her in death by 11 days. Ellie touched so many lives through her musical gifts. Lifelong music and piano teacher, Ellie served as Music Director at Christ United Methodist Church (Elmira) for 23 years. Beloved wife, sister, mother, aunt and grandmother, Ellie was cherished by all who knew her. She is survived by her children: Mark VanOsdol (Tricia), Boston, MA; John VanOsdol (Laura) Fairmont, WV; Judith VanOsdol, Denver, CO; Thomas VanOsdol (Stacy) Corning, NY; Cena VanOsdol-Block (Jeff), Milford, PA, and brother, Kenneth Huffmeyer (Jane). Ellie was adored by her 17 Grandchildren: Julia VanOsdol; Joshua, Jordan, Rachel, Jenny & Samuel VanOsdol; Daniel & Lia Hansen; Evan, Brianna, Alexis & Serena VanOsdol; Jeremy & Jason Block; Diona-Lynn Pronti, Madalynn Newcomer, Masen Thurber and great grandchild Acelynn Sullivan. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Visitation for both Ellie and Philip will be at McInerny Funeral Home, 502 W. Water Street, Elmira, Monday, January 15, 2018 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.. A joint funeral service for Ellie and Phil will be at New Beginnings Methodist Church, 300 E. Miller Street, Elmira, on Tuesday, January 16, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. Interment for both Ellie and Phil will then take place at Woodlawn Cemetery. A U S Air Force veteran, military honors will be accorded Phil.
