Age 82, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, September 14, 2025. Earl was predeceased by his mother and father, LuEsther (Hartsock) and Jim Moulthrop; birth father Earl I. Plate; son Earl Kristen Plate; brother Thomas A. Plate; and step-sister Sondra Palmer. He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years Norina Campbell Plate; daughters, Brenda Plate of Elmira, Brandy Hartman Lewis of Waverly NY, Nicole Plate Newkirk with husband Owen of McKinney TX, and Katrina Plate Marsh with husband Ryan of Elmira Heights NY; sisters, Deborah Moulthrop and Mary Heidemann; step-sister Nancy Heckman; brother-in-law Earl Campbell; 9 grandchildren; 2 great granddaughters; as well as nieces and nephews.
Earl was born and raised in Elmira. He was a 1961 graduate of Southside High School. After high school, Earl was commissioned to the Merchant Marines for a time; and was also a member of the Civil Air Patrol. He worked for National Homes, as well as the A & P Plant in Horseheads. Earl enjoyed working for Arnot Ogden Medical Center/St. Joseph’s Hospital as the Director of Facilities, from which he retired after a long career at the age of 72. Earl loved to travel with his wife, Norina. Vacation trips to the Thousand Islands in the summer, where he and his family enjoyed fishing and camping, and trips to Nashville, TN were favorite destinations. He also enjoyed trips to any casino. Earl had a great sense of humor. Most important to Earl was the cherished time spent with his family.
Following Earl’s wishes, there will be no services.
