Age 65, died at home on Thursday, January 26, 2017 surrounded by his family and friends after a long battle with Lymphoma. Ed was born March 27, 1951 in Danbury, CT to Sarah (Hetherington) and the late Joseph Foster, and grew up in Hoosick Falls, NY. He is also predeceased by sister-in-law Mary Elizabeth Canney. In addition to his mother he is survived by his wife Mary Johanna, his sons, John and William, his daughter Mary, and his sister Anne and her husband Kent Akin, father-in-law John C. Canney (late Barbara T. Canney), sisters-in-laws, Karen Bauman and Patricia (Thomas) Labert, brothers-in-law, Stephen, John, William (Kari), Mark (Mary Beth), and Robert (Denise) Canney, and numerous nieces and nephews. Ed was an avid outdoorsman, hunter, dog lover, brewmaster, guitar player, and was an aficionado of New Mexico and the southwestern U.S. He was a graduate of King's College-Wilkes Barre, Seton Hall University, and did his Ph.D. at the University of New Mexico in Microbial Physiology. Ed attended Medical School at Des Moines University College of Osteopathic Medicine and did his Residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Buffalo. Dr. Foster was the first patient at the University of Rochester Medical Center to undergo CAR T-cell immunotherapy as part of a national clinical trial. Dr. Foster practiced at Internal Medicine Associates of the Southern Tier (IMAST) and was affiliated with Arnot Ogden Medical Center and St. Joseph's Hospital. Family and friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, 502 W. Water Street, Elmira, on Tuesday, January 31, 2017 from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A prayer service will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, February 1, 2017 at 9:15 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m., Ss. Peter and Paul Church, Elmira. Interment, with committal prayers, will then take place at Woodlawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, those wishing may remember Dr. Foster with a donation to Golisano Hope Lodge Hospitality House, 1120 Goodman St. South, Rochester, NY 14620.
