Donna Qualey

Cosby TN: Age 65, formerly of Elmira, passed away Friday, November 29, 2013 at the University of Tennessee Medical Center, Knoxville TN. Donna was born January 30, 1948 in Elmira the daughter of the late Mary (Schiefen) and Mortimer Meade. She is also predeceased by her brothers Matthew and Michael Meade. Donna is survived by her loving husband of 42 years James "Whiz" S. Qualey, Jr.; children, James S. Qualey, III, Cosby TN; daughter and son-in-law, Koren M. and David Mahoney, New Rochelle NY with son David Patrick, Jr.; brothers and sisters-in-law, Martin and Brenda Meade, Frederick MD, Daniel and Karen Meade, Big Flats; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Sheila Meade, Albany NY, Martin and Cathy Qualey, Elmira, Brian and Karen Qualey, Elmira Heights, Ellen Cavaluzzi, Painted Post, Michael Qualey, Ashburn VA, Kevin and Debbie Qualey, Elmira; along with several nieces and nephews. Donna was a graduate of Elmira College where she received her Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Education. She was a teacher for the Head Start Program and then Diven Elementary School before moving to Newburgh NY where she taught for 25 years. Upon retiring Donna and Jim moved to Cosby in 2010. She enjoyed the challenges of being a teacher and making a difference in a child's life. Donna loved her family and will forever be missed by them and those who knew her. Friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, 502 W. Water Street, Elmira, on Wednesday, December 4, 2013 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A prayer service will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, December 5, 2013 at 9:15 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Patrick's Church at 10:00 a.m. Interment, with committal prayers, will follow at St. Peter & Paul's Cemetery.
