Age 77 of Elmira, passed away on Monday, May 8, 2017. Clara was born and raised in Elmira, a daughter of the late J. Malachi and Catherine (Stout) Cain. She is also predeceased by her husband Harold M. "Stosh" DeRenzo and niece Catherine "Katie" Cain. Clara is survived by her much loved children, daughter Beth Ann Farr of Elmira, son Michael C. DeRenzo of Surfside Beach SC; her favorite grandson Corey Farr and his wife Sarah; siblings, Sister Susan Cain, RSM of Canisteo NY, Mary Jo Minch of Millport and her husband Paul, John Cain of Golden Glow and his wife Marilyn; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Leonard N. and Sheila DeRenzo of Seneca Falls NY, Agnes Oldman of West Seneca NY, Deborah and Michael Semski of Elmira; cousin Zachary Stout of Hammondsport, NY; along with several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Clara began her teaching career with the Elmira City School District in 1962 and retired after 40 years, in 2002. She truly loved teaching and often said that although she traveled to school the same way each morning, once she got there each day was as special and unique as her students. Clara was blessed with a career she loved, a close, loving family, and wonderful friends. She was an avid New York Yankees fan as well as a fan of her grandson and the Muffin Crusters Hockey Club. Family and friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, 502 W. Water Street, Elmira, on Thursday, May 11, 2017 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A funeral service will follow at 7:15 p.m. Interment, with committal prayers, will take place on Friday, May 12, 2017, 10:30 a.m., St. Peter and Paul's Cemetery.
