Obituary

With deep love, the family of Cheryl Cooper Reynolds announces her peaceful passing on June 8, 2026, at the age of 74. Cheryl passed away at her home in Elmira, NY, surrounded by her loving family, following a courageous battle with cancer.

Cheryl was born in Sayre, PA, and grew up on the family farm in Ulster, PA, where she was raised by her parents, Mildred (Lundy) Cooper and Grant N. Cooper, alongside her two siblings, Jan Cooper and Kathy Swimelar. She graduated from SRU High School in East Smithfield, PA, before pursuing her passion for business. She graduated from Elmira Business Institute and earned a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Elmira College. Cheryl dedicated 38 years to a successful and varied career at NYSEG, ultimately retiring as a Senior Real Estate Analyst.

Cheryl was a vibrant woman who enjoyed life. She could always be found tending to her beautiful gardens or caring for animals. She loved boating on the lake, spending her winters golfing in The Villages, and gathering with family and friends over laughter and a good salad. She was an active community member who took tremendous pride in creating a warm and welcoming home.

Cheryl was a positive force-generous, easy to be around, and supportive of her family. She gave to many charities and left a lasting impact on everyone who knew her. Her life was truly well-lived.

The family wishes to express a special thank you to her caregivers, Erica DePrimo, Erin DePrimo, and Christine Woodruff. We are also incredibly grateful for the exceptional care and extra support given by her sister, Kathy Swimelar, and son-in-law, Tim Reynolds, over the past six months.

Cheryl is survived by her devoted husband, Donald H. Reynolds; her brother, Jan Cooper (JoAnn Cooper); sister, Kathy (Cooper) Swimelar (Jeff Swimelar); and sister-in-law Teri Miller-Walker (Kevin Walker). She is also survived by her step-sons, Todd Reynolds (Carolyn Reynolds) and Tim Reynolds (Ann DiPetta); her grandchildren, Jack, Liam, Isabel, and Camille Reynolds; and her nieces and nephews, Jenna Harding (Evan Harding), BreAnn Swimelar, Mathew Swimelar (Sara Swimelar), Rachel Malone (Rory Malone), Kevin Miller (Tiffany Miller), Brooks Miller (Jenna Miller), and Samantha Gray (Mathew Gray), all of whom will carry her memory forward. She was predeceased by her parents, Mildred and Grant Cooper; Don's mother, Betty Miller; Don's sister, Cheryl Ann Reynolds (Tom Westropp); and Don's brother, Bob Miller.

A small service will be held to celebrate Cheryl's life with immediate family.
