Age 81, of New York City, formerly of Elmira and Watkins Glen, NY, passed away on August 7, 2026, at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in Manhattan. Charlotte's health had been declining over the past year. Born in Elmira, NY, she was the daughter of the late Solomon and Marie (Sahadi) Joseph. Charlotte was predeceased by three of her beloved siblings: Laurice (Vito) Santoro, Renee (Charles) Sophy, Marietta (Lyle) Kimball; her sister-in-law, Michelene Joseph; and her two husbands, Dr. Luther Cloud and Chester Brooks Kerr. Charlotte is survived by her loving brothers Ronald and Vincent (Geraldine) Joseph and by numerous nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.

Charlotte worked for many years in the field of alcoholism and met her first husband, Luther, at the National Council on Alcoholism (now the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence). Charlotte and Luther shared a great love of jazz, a passion she would share with her second husband, jazz pianist Brooks Kerr. Brooks was a piano prodigy and an expert on the music of Duke Ellington. He played piano for years at the West End Cafe in New York City alongside numerous legendary Ellington alumni, including the drummer Sonny Greer.

A graduate of New York University, Charlotte was an active member of the NYU Alumni Association, serving in a number of roles throughout her lifetime.

When Charlotte's mother's health began to decline, she moved to Watkins Glen from New York City. Charlotte lived with her mother and was a loving and devoted caregiver until her mother's death in 2003.

In addition to caring for her mother, Charlotte was a compassionate caregiver to both her husbands as their health failed. She had many lifelong friendships, including a special one with Mary Kay Thomas Angiola that began as kindergarten classmates in Elmira.

Cooking was one of Charlotte's favorite pastimes for many years. In addition to amassing a very large cookbook collection over the years, she was an avid reader of Gourmet magazine, and even when space became an issue, could not bear to part with a single copy!

Charlotte will be missed and mourned by family and friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Patrick's Church, 604 Park Pl., Elmira, on Friday, September 4 at 10am. For anyone who is unable to attend the service in person, it will be live-streamed through Elmira Catholic's YouTube Page.
