Catherine Mandell

Elmira Heights: Age 98, passed away Tuesday, August 4, 2015, at her home, surrounded by her loving family. Catherine was born July 25, 1917, in Elmira, the daughter of Serafino and Angelina (Bernardo) Noterfonzo. She is predeceased by her husband Michael A. Mandell, daughter Theresa A. Jung, three brothers and one sister. Catherine is survived by her sons, Michael J. Mandell and wife Joan of Elmira, Daniel J. Mandell and wife Rosalee of Elmira, Richard J. Mandell of Elmira Heights; son-in-law Charles Jung of Loundenville NY; grandchildren, Charles, Jr. (Andrea) Jung, David (Brenda) Jung, Theresa (Archie) Haner, Deborah Richards, Catherine (David) Campbell, Michael (Deborah) Mandell, Daniel J., Jr. (Sherry) Mandell, Mary Catherine (Patrick) Carli; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Noterfonzo of Saratoga Springs NY and Theresa Noterfonzo of Elmira; several great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Catherine was an avid NY Met fan and bingo player. She enjoyed drives around Keuka and Seneca Lakes with a stop in Watkins Glen at Ben & Jerry's for vanilla ice cream. Her favorite foods were hot peppers, beans, greens, and Lib's pork chops. Until its closing, Catherine was a long time communicant of St. Anthony's Church. She was currently a communicant of St. Patrick's Church. Family and friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, 502 W. Water Street, Elmira, on Sunday, August 9, 2015 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. A prayer service will be held at the funeral home on Monday, August 10, 2015 at 9:15 a.m., followed by a 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Patrick's Church. Interment, with committal prayers, will follow at St. Peter & Paul's Cemetery. Those wishing may remember Catherine with a donation to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, Tribute Program, P O Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis TN 38148-0142.
