Elmira: Age 77, passed away at her home on Tuesday, April 8, 2014, surrounded by her loving family. Carolyn was born in Elmira on October 22, 1936, a daughter of Frederick and Marion (Follinsby) Duhl. She is predeceased by her son Jeffrey Johnston, husband Duane A. Scheepsma, sisters, Marion Maxwell and Joyce Hastings, brother Jack Duhl. Carolyn is survived by her children, and their families, James and Daphne Johnston, Gillett PA, with children, James and Joseph Johnston, Ryan Avagliano and Carlie Johnston; Julie and Tim Hayes, Fairfax VA, with children, Taylor, Katie and Jenna; nephew John Hastings, Elmira with wife Elaine, daughters, Kelly Hastings, Leigh (Aaron) Correia and Kerrigan Hastings, Elaine's daughter Allison Husted; niece Julie Schneider, Summerville SC, with husband Mark and son Matthew; brother-in-law Robert Maxwell, Pittsburg PA; sister-in-law Yvonne Duhl, Huntington Beach Ca; beloved dog Sugar. Carolyn worked for several years for Chemung County Vital Records before going to work in the Corrections Division at the Chemung County Jail from where she retired. Carolyn was a great cook. She had a huge heart, great sense of humor and was the life of the party! Friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, 502 W. Water Street, Elmira on Saturday, April 12, 2014 from 12:00 noon to 2:30 p.m. A funeral service will be held at the conclusion of calling hours with Father William Lutz officiating. Interment will take place on Monday, April 14, 2014 at Woodlawn Cemetery. Carolyn's family extends their sincere thanks to everyone who helped with her care over the last several months.
