Carolee Ann (Ruocco) Sherman passed away suddenly and unexpectedly at home on the morning of Monday, July 20, 2026.
A daughter of Joseph and Lillian Ruocco, she was born on November 1, 1948, in Corning, NY. Beloved sister of Joseph (Teresa) Ruocco and Annette (Alan) Zerbe, she graduated from East High School in 1966. She then graduated from SUNY Erie Community College and received her associate's degree in dental hygiene. Carolee worked for Chemung County in the youth sealant program and for Dr. Rod Schrader as a dental hygienist for decades. She loved all her patients and kept in touch with many of them for years after.
Carolee married Larry Sherman on June 3, 1972. Life-long Elmira residents, together they raised two amazing children, Becky (Norm) Kieffer and Jeremy (Terri) Sherman.
She was a grandmother to Reese, Ava and Cael Sherman; Nolan and William Kieffer and beloved Aunt or "Kiki" to Maggie, Torie and Abbie Zerbe.
Carolee was cherished by many friends and family and enjoyed a very active life of both service and sport. She played golf, pickleball, and volunteered at both the food cupboard as well as Arnot Hospital. She was also active throughout her life as a member of St. Mary's Parish, serving as a Eucharistic Minister. Carolee was a board member of the senior gym at Chemung County Family Fitness; she lived her life through service and was always thinking of others.
She loved vacationing with her family in Rehoboth and Bethany Beach. She was an AVID Yankees fan and would pretty much watch any sport that was on TV. She was a coach and role model to both of her children. She cherished watching Ava play softball, Cael play lacrosse, and Nolan and Will perform in theater, play soccer and volleyball, respectively. She welcomed and enjoyed everyone in this community. She loved fiercely and was loved fiercely. She will not be forgotten.
Friends and family are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, 502 W. Water St., Elmira for Calling Hours on Monday, July 27, 2026, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, July 28, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at Saint Mary's Church, 224 Franklin St, Elmira. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Chemung County Fitness Center, 425 Pennsylvania Ave. Elmira, NY 14904.
