Carol Ann Gilmore, age 77, passed away unexpectedly on February 16, 2026.

She was born February 17, 1948 in Elmira, one of 7 children born to the late Clinton Sr. and Theresa (Forrest) Nickens.

Carol graduated from Elmira Free Academy and received her Associate's Degree from Alfred State College.

She spent many years as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in nursing homes and hospitals. Carol retired from her career as an LPN with Southern Tier Hospice in Elmira.

In her spare time, Carol loved to crochet and was an avid bingo player. She also loved helping the elderly.

In addition to her parents, Carol was preceded in death by the love of her life, Donald E. Gilmore; her brothers, Clinton Nickens, Jr. and David "Crockett" Nickens and her dog, Maxi.

Left to remember her are her siblings, Pauline Freeman, Patricia Freeman, James Mosley, Brenda Freeman, Jacqueline Cartwright, Timothy Nickens and James "Nicky" Nickens. She is also survived by a host of nieces, including her loving niece and goddaughter, Natasha Seals; nephews, extended family, friends and late Maxi and her current canine companion, Chloe.

A shelter service in remembrance of Carol will be held on Monday, February 23 at 11:00AM at Woodlawn National Cemetery, 1825 Davis St., Elmira. Inurnment will immediately follow at the columbarium.
