Age 91, passed away at home on Wednesday, January 1, 2025. Bruce was a lifelong resident of Elmira, the last surviving of five children born to Ralph J. and Vella VanGordon Haskell. He is survived by son and daughter-in-law Thomas and Linda Haskell of Elmira with their children, Hannah and Jack Haskell; daughter and son-in-law Laurie Pica and James Blackman of Elmira; sister-in-law Shirley Buckley of Connecticut; along with several nieces and nephews. Bruce is predeceased by his wife Joan Buckley Haskell; daughter Mary Ellen Haskell; siblings and spouses, Mildred and Doug Haskins, Marjorie and Pete Johnson, Helen and Thomas Keeton, Ralph “Brud” and Dorothy Haskell; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Winifred and Darwin Arnold, Jane and Jack Chapman, Robert and Ellen Buckley, Joseph and Joyce Buckley, Paul and Jean Buckley, Gerald Buckley; and several nieces and nephews.




Bruce worked in construction his entire life starting with his dad’s company, Ralph J. Haskell Construction. He later purchased Sullivan Trail Construction from his brother and sister. He retired as president of Sullivan Trail. Bruce was active in the construction industry and a member of the Chemung County Builders Association. He was also active in the community as a board member of several organizations including Chemung County Solid Waste, Woodlawn Cemetery, Chemung County Cerebral Palsy, Chemung County ARC and Finger Lakes Boating Museum in Hammondsport. Bruce had a great love of Keuka Lake, and it was there he met his future wife, Joan Buckley. Over the years they spent many happy times with family and friends at their cottage on the lake




Family and friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, 502 W. Water St., Elmira, on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. A funeral service will follow at 11:15 a.m. A private burial will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery. Those wishing may remember Bruce with a donation to a charity of one’s choice.
