Barbara Jean Smith, 73, of Elmira, passed away suddenly on August 6, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born in Elmira on June 15, 1953, the daughter of the late Frank Lewis and Barbara Grace (Kinner) Stickler.

She married Emery Smith, Jr. in 1971. They were married until his passing on January 27, 1996.

Barbara is a graduate of Southside High School.

In her spare time, Barbara loved to plant her gardens, especially her peppers, tomatoes and string beans. She loved walking when she could and later sitting on "the stoop", being the "stoop friend" to her neighbors. Above all, she will be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother who was deeply loved and will be dearly missed.

In addition to her parents and husband, she is also preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Lou Stickler and Anne Wintermute.

She is survived by her children, Scott Smith and Angela Smith; grandchildren, Caitlyn Hunter and Kyle Hunter; great-grandchildren, Zaiden Hunter and Maddox Lins; seven sisters, Beth (Ron) Anderson, Nancy (Tom) Briggs, Tina (Ron) Beligotti, Cindy (late Gerry Sr.) Derr, Colleen (late Tom) Nemier, Collette (late Chuck) Haner and Brenda (Mark) Dominikoski and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and her loving partner, Bill Luecken.
