Elmira: Age 74, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, July 21, 2013. Tony was born October 12, 1938, in Elmira, the son of the late Grace (Lombardi) and Carlo A. Durante. In addition to his parents he is predeceased by his sister Rose Foster, uncle Jerry Lombardi, nephew Mark Travis, and brother-in-law Cliff Miller. Tony is survived by his long- time companion Jacqueline Edwards, Elmira; daughter, with her family, Gina and Kurt Bischoff, Bloomington IL, with children, Aiden, Hunter and Marissa; siblings, Caroline Durante, Texas, Francis Durante, with Judith Johnson, Ithaca, Rita Durante, Albert Durante, Raymond Durante, all of Elmira; along with several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Tony graduated from St. Anthony's Grammar School and EFA, Class of 1957. He worked for Conrail, as an engineer, until his retirement. Tony loved horse racing, traveling and collecting antique cars/convertibles. An avid football fan, he was a "die-hard" Buffalo Bills fan. Tony could be found at area festivals, enjoying good food and good conversation. He could strike up a conversation with anyone! He could be seen riding his bicycle around town, getting his daily exercise. Tony was a life- long communicant of St. Anthony's Church, now Blessed Sacrament Parish, a member of the Sons of Italy, Sayre PA, and a former member of the Elmira Moose Lodge. Tony treasured the times spent with his family….he will be forever loved and missed. Friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, 502 W. Water Street, Elmira, on Friday, July 26, 2013 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A prayer service will be held at the funeral home Saturday, July 27, 2013 at 9:15 a.m., followed by Tony's Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church. Interment, with committal prayers, will follow at St. Peter & Paul's Cemetery.
