Anthony Joseph "Tony" Cannizzaro

Seneca Lake:  Age 80, passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by his loving family, on Monday, August 11, 2025.  Tony was born and raised in Elmira, a son of John F. and Rose (Laux) Cannizzaro.  He is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years Kathleen Steed Cannizzaro; daughters, with their families…Melissa M. Cannizzaro of Watkins Glen, with daughters, Taylor Poklemba (Cory), and Madison Gernhard (Nicholas)…Christine M. Keough of Kingsley MI with husband Dennis and children, Dr. Angela Whittaker (Dr. Charles) and Tony Keough…Antoinette K. Klotz of Elmira with husband Timothy and children, Lindsay, Julia and Anna Klotz; great-grandchildren, Aurora and Avery Poklemba, Thea Gernhard and baby girl Whittaker due in October; brother John F. Canemaker of New York City, with husband Joseph Kennedy; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Patrick and Jean Ann Steed of Horseheads, Priscilla Steed of Elmira, Peggy Steed of Pine City and Joseph Kane of Waverly NY; along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Tony was a 1963 graduate of Notre Dame High School, and a 1964 graduate of Rochester Institute of Business.  He had a 27-year career with NYSDOT, retiring as a supervisor in 2000.  Tony enjoyed football with Notre Dame University and the Buffalo Bills being his teams.  Being and avid hunter and fisherman, what better place to live than on Seneca Lake.  A place he and Kathleen were able to call home for the past 25-years.

F amily and friends are invited to Tony’s Mass of Christian Burial that will be held on Thursday, August 14, 2025, 1:00 p.m., St. Mary’s Church, 224 Franklin Street, Elmira.  Interment, with committal prayers, will follow at St. Peter & Paul’s Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing may remember Tony with a donation to UR Medicine Hospice, 2180 Empire Boulevard, Webster NY 14580, in recognition of the wonderful care provided to Tony and his family over the past few weeks.
