Ann Elizabeth Walz (Troy) passed away November 15, 2022, at the age of 79. Ann was born October 15, 1943, to Francis Troy & Marie Troy (Shortsleeve) in Binghamton, NY. She grew up in Elmira, NY.
Ann attended college at the University of Toronto gaining a bachelor's degree in French. She then attended Purdue where she graduated with a master's degree in French, and met her husband, Frederick Walz.
Ann and Fred were married in 1969 and had their first child, Marie, while living in Indiana. A few years later Martha was born, and they relocated to Grand Rapids, MI and had their son John. Ann was a stay-at-home mom while her children were younger then became a French professor at Grand Rapids Community College. She and Fred got to live in France for a year through his work right before they retired.
Ann was known for her kind, gentle personality and loyal friendship. Ann enjoyed spending time with her family, socializing, reading, crafts and traveling.
In retirement, Ann and Fred traveled and spent winters in Arizona and summers in Michigan. In their later years they moved to San Diego, CA to be closer to their children.
Ann was predeceased by her husband Fredrick J. Walz and brother Michael A. Troy.
She is survived by her children, Marie Walz (Jenny Urban), Martha Walz (Ted Lee), and John Walz (Mana Walz); grandchildren, Tristan Workman, Owen Lee & Josie Walz; sister-in-law Carol Stull Troy; brothers and sisters-in-law, Francis H. Jr. and Carol Troy; of Elmira, Daniel P. and Karen Troy of Elmira, Timothy W. Troy of Tucson, AZ, J. Frederick and Lynn Troy of Elmira, Joseph P. and Terril Troy of Tucson, AZ; along with many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, 502 W. Water Street, Elmira, on Friday, December 2, 2022 from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Ann on Saturday, December 3, 2022, 10:00 a.m., at St. Patrick's Church, 604 Park Place, Elmira. A livestream of the Mass will be available through the Facebook page for Most Holy Name of Jesus Parish (https://www.facebook.com/ElmiraCatholic). Interment, with committal prayers, will follow at St. Peter & Paul's Cemetery.
