Loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend, Ann Elizabeth Hitchcock, embarked on life's final journey Friday, October 13, 2017, surrounded at home by her loving family. Born in Elmira on July 9, 1935, she was predeceased by her parents, James H. McFarland, Helen Schiefen McFarland, step-mother Ruth Mayes McFarland, beloved sister Joan Rommelt and many friends and relatives. She is now in heaven with those she loved and will forever be in the hearts of those she leaves behind. Ann is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Richard J. Hitchcock Sr., her children, Susan (Thomas) Deumling; Richard Jr., with children, Sean, Shannon (Paul), Ryan and Michael Hitchcock; Timothy (Susan) with children, Jennifer (Shawn) Crandall and T.J. Hitchcock; Mark (Maryanne) with children, Beth Ann (Keith) Barker, Molly and Joey Hitchcock; Karen (Jeff) Eggert with children, Christopher and Alyssa; brothers, James (Marjorie) McFarland and Michael (Mary) McFarland; along with many friends and relatives. Ann attended St. Patrick's Grammar School and graduated from Elmira Catholic High. Raised in Elmira by a loving and extended family, she worked as a Counselor at the Harris Hill Youth Camp, the Cameo Shop, Eldridge Park and as an operator at New York Telephone Company before embarking on her true calling as a wonderful homemaker, wife and mother. The Hitchcock home was always the center of all neighborhood activities on both Riverside Avenue (Elmira) and Cayuga Street (Trumansburg). Ann led the charge and loved to socialize with her "Club", neighborhood mothers and LAOH members. Ann cherished her Irish Heritage and was a member of the Ladies Division of the Ancient Order of Hibernians. Ann was a communicant of the Church of the Epiphany of Port Orange, Florida and Ss. Peter and Paul Church of Elmira. Calling hours will be held at the McInerny Funeral Home, 502 W. Water Street, Elmira, on Thursday, October 19, 2017 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be performed at St. Mary's Church, 224 Franklin Street, Elmira, on Friday, October 20, 2017, at 10:00 am. Interment, with committal prayers, will follow at St. Peter & Paul's Cemetery. Ann's Family would like to thank Carla Smith for her devotion in assisting with her care. They were truly blessed to have her and were very blessed that Ann was able to pass away peacefully at home.
