Ann DeMember-Irwin, born March 6th,1939, died peacefully after a brief illness on September 30th, 2026 in Elmira, NY. She spent 87 years evolving into a resilient, thoughtful, comically Type A personality who flourished in her role as the family matriarch.
She leaves behind a family who misses her deeply: Bill, her loving and patient husband of 37 years; daughter, Karen Tobash; grandchildren, Danielle Miller (Nathan) and Joel Erway (Maryjo), along with her great grandchildren Dominic, Leona, Leah and Jovie. She is also survived by her sisters: Rosalie (Edmund) Smith, Gigi Morse, Maryjo DeMember and Terry DeMember, along with a host of nieces, nephews and cherished friends.
Ann was born and raised in Elmira. She graduated as valedictorian of Notre Dame High School's class of 1957, was then educated at SUNY Brockport, and eventually retired from the admissions department at Corning Community College. She was very active in the Catholic church and various community groups, sang with different choirs around the area, loved The Beatles, and enjoyed spending time at Round Lake with her family. She will be most fondly remembered as a grandmother who laughed herself to tears, and for being the ever-present trellis from which her family bloomed.
A prayer service to honor Ann will be held at McInerny Funeral Home, 502 W. Water St., Elmira on November 14th at 2:00 p.m.
