Andrew Smith

Age 53, of Elmira, passed away on Friday, July 14, 2017, at Elcor Health Services in Horseheads. Andy was born in Elmira the son of the late Claude A. and Marna (Munson) Smith. He is also predeceased by his sister Ethel Jean Schrader and niece Michele McDonald. Andy is survived by his sister and brother-in-law Karna F. and Mark O'Herron of Elmira with daughter Kacey (Eric) Gergel; brother and sister-in-law Earl H. and Kathy Smith of Pine City with son Brandon Smith; Ethel's daughter, Jocelyn (Joe) Moglia; great niece Cecily Gergel. Andy enjoyed many activities….he was a Boy Scout, enjoyed bowling, shooting baskets, shopping, picnics, rock 'n roll music. He loved the outdoors, had a great sense of humor, and loved to laugh. Andy enjoyed Sunday afternoons having Pepsi and chips at "The Club". He was a proud volunteer with Pathways for over 20 years. Andy was fortunate to live at home with his mom and dad who provided him with exceptional care until moving to his ARC home in 2001. His dad passed away in 1997 and his mom in 2010. Friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, 502 W. Water Street, Elmira, on Monday, July 17, 2017 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. A funeral service, officiated by Father John DeSocio, will be held at the conclusion of calling hours. Committal prayers and interment will take place on Tuesday at Rural Home Cemetery in Big Flats. Andy's family extends a special thank you to the Maple Creek Meadows staff at Elcor for the wonderful care they provided Andy with over the past five months.
