Aaron Joseph Mekos

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Aaron Joseph Mekos on Tuesday, February 13, 2024, at 49 years of age.

Aaron is survived by his loving parents Joseph and Marilyn Punzo Mekos. He also leaves behind a large family including brother-in-law Brent Young, his beautiful nieces and nephew, Mary Katherine, Elizabeth, and Jake Young; uncles and aunts Peter and Shelley Nelson Punzo, George Mekos, Rose Mekos Hancock; cousins Matthew, Melissa, Sarah, Heather, Jodi, Georgia, and Cory.

Aaron is predeceased by his sister and best friend Kara Mekos Young, and grandparents Joseph and Mary Liberatore Punzo, George and Rose Pasone Mekos.

Aaron was born August 23, 1974, and immediately began leaving his mark on everyone he encountered. He was a graduate of Elmira Notre Dame High School Class of 1992 where he will be remembered as an accomplished three sport athlete. He attended Cazenovia College and Elmira College. This led him to his career as President of JGR Hops Inc./ dba The Branch Office where he worked beside his mentor, his dad. It was here that he continued to place his mark on countless people making more lifelong friendships.

He was always deeply caring and supportive of his relatives, friends, and their families. He truly enjoyed the lighter side of life. Aaron was a true original. When you hear his name, fondly remember him with a smile.

Family and friends are invited to Aaron’s Memorial Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, February 24, 2024, 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church, 224 Franklin Street, Elmira.

In remembering Aaron, it would be fitting to make a contribution to Notre Dame High School, 1400 Maple Avenue, Elmira NY 14904, where his friendships, career plan, and sports memories began.
