“Aunt Rose”
Elmira: Age 93, passed away peacefully on Sunday,
January 29, 2012 at St. Joseph’s
Hospital SNF. Rose was born in Elmira on
October 8, 1918, a daughter of Anthony and Maria (Spallone) DeSocio. She is predeceased by her husband Malcolm C.
MacFeiggan, brothers, Ralph, Charles, and Peter DeSocio, and sisters, Clara
Muccigrosso, and Dolores LeMark. Rose is
survived by her step son, David MacFeiggan, of Corning with wife Shelly and
their children Shannon (Nathan) Majiros of Detroit MI and Sean MacFeiggan of
North Carolina, great-granddaughter Delaney Majiros; her many nieces and
nephews, Joseph (Helen) Muccigrosso of Corning, Angelo (Mary Catherine)
Muccigrosso of Schenectady, Ralph (Mary) DeSocio, Jr. of Pine City, Anthony
(Dee) DeSocio of Elmira, Mary (Tom) Diehr of Pine City, Joseph (Marijon) LeMark
of Victor NY, Charles (Marlene) LeMark of Elmira, Father John DeSocio of
Elmira, Peter (Trish) DeSocio of Indiana, Christine (Robert) Burns of Bath; many
numerous great-nieces and great-nephews, sister-in-law Emily DeSocio of
Elmira. Rose lived her life fitting in
as many things as she could, both personally and professionally. Her life has been an inspiration to all who
knew her. She worked at Rosenbaum’s as
their Credit Manager. While there she
was active with the Credit Women’s International of District 2, NY & NJ,
holding the office of President and also serving as the Librarian and Steward. Rose loved this community and was the
consummate volunteer. St Joseph’s
Hospital was the beneficiary of countless volunteer hours from Rose. While working full time she was instrumental
in starting the Hospital Auxiliary in 1954.
She served as its first Treasurer and then became the third President of
the Auxiliary. Rose was also responsible
for starting the hospital gift shop and upon her retirement from Rosenbaum’s
she became the first head of the hospital Volunteer Department, serving from
1968 to 1990. While working as head of
the volunteers Rose served on the committee that brought the LPGA tournament to
Corning. She worked the tournament for 25 out of the
31 years it was here. A long time
communicant of Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Rose served two terms on the Parish
Council, and up until a few years ago was head of Social Ministry for Lourdes. She worked on the annual Bishop’s Appeal
for many years and also volunteered at the soup kitchen once a month with other
church volunteers. The American Cancer Society was another organization that
benefited from Rose’s volunteering. She
was a long time board member and was chairperson for both “Daffodil Week”, and
Christmas Gift Wrap at the mall. Rose
served on the Chemung Valley M.S. Society board. She also served on the board and was a former
president of Gold Card for many years. Throughout the years Rose has received
many awards from the many organizations she served. In 2002 she was given the Athena Award by the
Chamber of Commerce. Some of the other
awards dearest to her heart were, the OPPY award received while working at St. Joseph’s Hospital,
the Centurion Award she received after her retirement for all the volunteer
work she had done at the hospital, and Volunteer of the Year Award from the
American Cancer Society. She also was
acknowledged by the Office of Social Ministry for volunteer work.
Friends are invited to call at
St. Mary’s Church, 224 Franklin Street, Elmira on Saturday,
February 4, 2012 from 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will
follow at 11:00 a.m., with her nephew Father John DeSocio presiding. Private interment will take place at St.
Peter & Paul’s Cemetery. Those

Rose’s family extends their
