Norma E.
Colborn
Elmira: Age 89, of Elmira,
passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 3, 2011.
Norma was born in Elmira
on August 14, 1921 the daughter of Seward S. and Anna (Nyland) Tunnicliff. She was predeceased by her husband of 53
years Douglas S. Colborn, son Kevin Colborn, daughter Susan Colborn,
brothers-in-law, Edward Thelen and Robert Colborn. Norma is survived by her children, Rodney S.
Colborn of San Diego CA with children Corey and Glen; Carolyn A. Colborn of
Rochester; Brian D. Colborn of Elmira with children, Samantha and Brian; Susan’s
son Erik, who was raised by Norma and Doug; sister Eleanor Thelen of Fairport
NY; along with several nieces, nephews and cousins. Norma received her bachelor’s degree in
Education from SUNY Oneonta. After
college she served in the American Red Cross during WW II. Norma later earned her master’s degree in
education from Elmira
College. She was an elementary teacher for over 35
years and taught in several schools in the Elmira City
School District. She was a member of the Daughters of the
American Revolution and a Past Regent of the DAR. She was a former member of North Presbyterian
Church where she and Doug were married.
Norma cherished time spent with her family and she will be missed, but
never forgotten. Friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, corner of W. Water and
Walnut Streets, on Sunday, July 10, 2011 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. A funeral service will follow at 4:00
p.m. Interment will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery at the convenience of the
family. Norma may be remembered through
a donation to a charity of one’s choice.
