Nicholas F.
Cantando
Age
81, of Elmira,
passed away unexpectedly on Friday, June 4, 2010. Nicholas was a son of the late John and Lucy
(Bonsignore) Cantando. He was the last
surviving of seven children. Nick was
predeceased by his siblings, Dominic, John, Anthony and William Cantando,
Rosemary Hamilton and Philomena Woods.
He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Antoinette Liotino
Cantando; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Philomena Cantando, Lorraine
Cantando, Elizabeth Cantando, Donald Hamilton, Lucy Galvin, Vito and Sylvia
Liotino, Peter and MaryLou Liotino. Nick
is also survived by 42 inherited children!!, and numerous great nieces and
great nephews. He was a veteran of the U
S Army where he served as a paratrooper.
Nick had worked at Corning Glass Works for 10 years before buying the
Plaza Bar and Grill on Pennsylvania
Ave. He has
been the proprietor of the Plaza for nearly 45 years. Nick was a charter member of the Italian
American Veterans Club and a member of American Legion Bentley Post #443. Family
and friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, corner of W. Water and Walnut
Streets, on Tuesday, June 8, 2010 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A prayer service will be held there on
Wednesday, June 9, 2010 at 10:15 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at
11:00 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Church.
Committal prayers and interment, with military honors, will follow at
St. Peter & Paul’s Cemetery. In

Members of the Italian
American Veterans Club will meet at McInerny Funeral Home at 7:00 p.m. on
Tuesday, June 8th, for a prayer service for our deceased comrade
Nicholas F. Cantando.
